Wisdom

The Lord Jesus through his death and resurrection has changed everything in my life. My future is secure and so I can walk in peace. My sins are covered and forgiven, therefore I do not live in shame. My identity is found in Christ and so I need not live my life in fear of others and what they have to say. His coming to earth and death upon the cross is a constant reminder of his great love for me and so I do not need to worry when life’s circumstances seem to shout that he has forgotten all about me. Through my faith in that one act Jesus has completely changed my life. I have the opportunity to choose joy every day of my life. All of the big issues of my life have been settled and in the control of the one who has created all things. I am, literally, set for life…and death.

But what about the little things in life? What about those hundreds of choices I need to make everyday? Does God give us any help so that we can help our children be successful in life? We know that the best thing we can do is to point everyone we know to Christ and to encourage them to have their lives changed by his amazing work on Calvary but is there some everyday practical help that God also gives? The answer to that is, of course, a resounding yes! God has given us the wisdom literature in the Bible to help us live our everyday lives in a Godly manner. The wisdom literature of the Bible primarily consists of the books of Job, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes. Job and Ecclesiastes help us put some of the bigger pictures of life in perspective and Proverbs helps us with everyday practical wisdom. These gems, inspired from the God who created us, point us in the right direction so that we can live Godly lives. Our role is to trust them and to use them to make the right choices in life. When we trust them in this way, they become a daily source of wisdom that God uses to allow us to know that he is walking with us.

I have tons of favorites that God has used in my life and has allowed me to share with my children. Proverbs 18:13, 17 has kept me from spouting off way before I should. Proverbs 26:17 has kept me out of a lot of trouble. Proverbs 21:1 has brought great peace while waiting decisions from those who could effect my life. Proverbs 21:31 has set me free to work hard while allowing God to be the ultimate one who determines the outcome. Proverbs 31:8,9 has convicted my heart about opening my mouth for those whose voice is not often heard.

I am so grateful for the Gospel and how it is has changed my life. I am just as grateful for the daily guidance God gives through the Wisdom found in his Word. I am grateful that my success in life is not determined by my IQ but by my willingness to trust and choose the wisdom he has laid out for me.
