Trans????

Our culture basically has two criteria we use to make a decision.  The pragmatic approach, “Does it work for you?” and the emotional approach, “How does it make you feel?”  We no longer ask, “Is it true?” because we no longer accept any one thing as authoritative.  The Bible, on the other hand, demands that we be thinkers and that we react with the truth of the Word from God.  The Bible also teaches that apart from the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives, we cannot understand the wisdom of God nor will we seek the wisdom of God.  Today, I would plead with our culture to ask God to teach us His Word and Wisdom.  (Prov 2:1-6; I Cor 2:14; I Pet 1:13; Eph 4:23; Jn 17:17; Ps 119:160).

Our culture’s desire to abandon truth and to define what is right and wrong by how it feels or if it works often results in situations that were never expected by us but God saw coming all along.  I listen to a lot of sports talk radio and lately the topic has moved to Bruce Jenner and his decision to dress and act like a woman.  Each talk show host seems more than happy to allow Bruce to do what works for him and what makes him happy.  When asked if they would be ok if their children were to make the same decision most hosts found that decision a little harder but if it made their children happy, then they were ok with it.  Since those are the criteria, where does it stop?  What if your child was Transable?  Transable is when someone struggles with a part of their body.  A person feels that their left arm is foreign to them and that it needs to come off in order for them to be happy.  Another person feels way more comfortable in leg braces and a wheel chair even though their legs work just fine.  (Yes, this is real).  This used to be considered a mental illness that brought great suffering to people’s lives, but it is now being labeled as Transable.  Would you be so willing to sit back and allow your child to pursue his happiness if he wanted to mutilate his body?  Be careful how you answer because gender identity surgery is called surgery for a reason.  Many people might balk at this example and say that these are two different things.  But if pragmatism and emotionalism are the only criteria for making these kinds of decisions, then what truth do you have left to reason with your child?  And what happens when, in the future, our depraved minds come up with another “trans????” that is farther from the truth of God than Transable?  There is nothing to stop the downward spiral.

God gave us his Word to protect us from ourselves.  He did not do so to bring unhappiness upon us.  He did not do so to inhibit our freedom.  He gave us his Word because he loves us and knows what pursuing our desires will eventually bring.  Christians, speak the Word of God today.  Speak it boldly and loudly.  Speak it lovingly.  It is designed to save us from ourselves.
